Trusted Local Chiropractors

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession concerned with the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems, particularly those involving the spine, joints, muscles and nervous system.

We focus on the health of your spine and nervous system – the vital communication network between your brain and your body.

Chiropractors use specific adjustments to correct areas of spinal dysfunction. This not only helps relieve pain and stiffness, but also improves posture, movement, and nervous system function – all of which can lead to better energy levels, sleep, and overall health.

“Chiropractic is a natural and effective way to help your body function at its best.”

Chiropractic care may include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments
  • Spinal manipulation
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Soft-tissue techniques
  • Movement advice
  • Rehabilitation exercises
  • Postural guidance
  • Advice relating to work, activity and everyday movement

The exact techniques used will depend on your health, symptoms, examination findings, preferences and treatment goals.

What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a controlled movement applied to a joint.

Adjustments are commonly used to improve movement in joints that are stiff or restricted. They may be applied using the chiropractor’s hands or a specialist instrument.

Some adjustments produce a clicking or popping sound. This is perfectly normal and caused by a change in pressure within the joint.  (It is not the sound of bones moving back into place.)

Your chiropractor will always talk you through your treatment beforehand and keep you fully informed about what to expect.

What Can a Chiropractor Assess?

People visit MOJO Chiropractic with a wide range of musculoskeletal symptoms and concerns.

These commonly include:

Back Pain

Back pain can affect sitting, standing, lifting, sleeping and everyday movement. Your assessment will consider the back itself as well as surrounding joints, muscles and movement patterns.

Neck Pain and Stiffness

Neck pain may make turning your head, working, driving or sleeping uncomfortable. It may sometimes be accompanied by shoulder, arm or headache symptoms.

Sciatica

Sciatica commonly describes pain, tingling, numbness or discomfort travelling from the lower back or buttock into the leg.

Similar symptoms can have different causes, making an appropriate physical and neurological assessment important.

Headaches & Migraines

Some headaches may be related to muscular tension or restricted movement in the neck.

Chiropractic care is not appropriate for every type of headache or migraine, so your symptoms and health history should be assessed carefully.

Shoulder and Hip Discomfort

Your chiropractor can assess whether symptoms affecting the shoulder or hip may relate to the joint itself, surrounding muscles or movement in other parts of the body.

Joint Stiffness and Restricted Movement

Joint stiffness can affect everyday activities, exercise and confidence in movement. Your assessment will consider how the affected area and surrounding joints are functioning.

Postural and Work-Related Concerns

Prolonged sitting, driving, standing, lifting or repetitive work can contribute to musculoskeletal discomfort.

Your chiropractor may assess relevant working positions, habits and movement demands as part of your care.

Sports and Activity-Related Problems

Chiropractic care may be suitable for some minor sports-related injuries or movement problems. It can also aid in performance by helping your body move more efficiently and free of restrictions.

Chiropractic Care for Different Lifestyles

Chiropractic for Busy and Working Lifestyles

Long periods sitting at a desk, driving, standing or completing repetitive physical tasks can place demands on the muscles and joints.

A chiropractic assessment can help identify:

  • Restricted movement
  • Areas of muscular tension
  • Activities that aggravate symptoms
  • Movement habits that may be relevant
  • Opportunities to modify work or everyday routines

Advice may include movement breaks, simple exercises and practical changes alongside hands-on care.

Chiropractic for Active Lifestyles

Walking, running, cycling, gym training, golf and team sports all place different demands on the body.

Harvey’s personal background in athletics and rugby gives him an understanding of how discomfort or restricted movement can affect confidence and participation.

Care may focus on:

  • Restoring comfortable joint movement
  • Addressing relevant muscular tension
  • Supporting rehabilitation
  • Improving confidence in movement
  • Helping you return to activity gradually
  • Providing exercises suited to your goals

No improvement in sporting performance can be guaranteed.

Chiropractic for Older Adults

Chiropractic care can be adapted for older adults according to their health, mobility, comfort and individual requirements.

Treatment does not always involve strong or forceful techniques. Gentle mobilisation, soft-tissue care, movement advice and appropriately selected techniques may be used.

A detailed health history is particularly important where there are existing medical conditions, previous surgery or reduced bone density.

Chiropractic FAQs

What conditions can chiropractors treat?

Our experienced chiropractors can treat a wide range of different conditions, from back pain, neck pain and recurrent headaches/migraines, to arthritis, fibromyalgia and diagnosed musculoskeletal disorders. Book an appointment to find out how we can help.

What happens during a first chiropractic appointment?

Your first appointment at MOJO Chiropractic includes a discussion about your symptoms and health history, followed by a relevant physical examination. This may include movement, orthopaedic, neurological and postural assessments. Treatment is not normally provided during this first appointment.

How long is a new patient consultation?

Your initial chiropractic consultation lasts approximately 40 minutes. Your separate Report of Findings appointment lasts approximately 20 minutes.

Will I be treated at my first appointment?

No treatment is normally carried out at the initial consultation. Your chiropractor first needs to assess your health and review the examination findings. If chiropractic care is appropriate, treatment may begin at your second appointment.

What is a Report of Findings?

A Report of Findings is your second appointment. Your chiropractor will explain what was found during your assessment, discuss whether chiropractic care may help and outline any recommended care, costs and alternative options.

Do I have to commit to a treatment plan?

No. Your chiropractor will explain the available options and answer your questions, but the decision about whether to proceed will always be yours.

Is chiropractic suitable for everyone?

Not necessarily. Your chiropractor will review your health history and examine you to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate. If another form of care or further investigation is recommended, this will be explained to you.

What Happens If Chiropractic Is Not Suitable?

Chiropractic care is not the right option for every person or every condition.

Your initial assessment helps us identify whether we believe it is safe and appropriate to provide chiropractic care.

If your chiropractor does not believe we are the right clinic to help you—or feels that further investigation or another healthcare professional would be more appropriate—we will explain this clearly and do our best to guide you towards a suitable next step.

Your health and safety will always come first.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

You do not normally need a GP referral to book a private chiropractic consultation. However, we may recommend contacting your GP or another healthcare professional when this is clinically appropriate.

What should I wear to my chiropractic consultation?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily during the examination

Where is MOJO Chiropractic located?

MOJO Chiropractic is located at 398–400 Lymington Road, Highcliffe, Christchurch, BH23 5HE.

Can I ask questions before booking?

Yes. You can contact the clinic if you are unsure whether an appointment is suitable or would like more information about the new patient process.
